TDI Nitrox Diver

Course code: TDI-02

Understand the gas you are breathing—not simply the number written on the cylinder.
The TDI Nitrox Diver course is an entry-level enriched-air program for recreational divers who want to use a single nitrox mixture from EAN-22 through EAN-40 for no-decompression diving. Training develops practical understanding of oxygen exposure, maximum operating depth, equivalent air depth, gas analysis, cylinder identification and labelling, equipment considerations, and conservative dive planning. It is an academic and practical-analysis course rather than an in-water skills course, and provides a strong foundation for TDI Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, and future technical-diving education

Standards verification note: Standards verification note: This section has been checked against the current TDI Standards and Procedures, Part 2, Section 6 — Nitrox Diver, and the official TDI Nitrox Diver course page. The course qualifies graduates to use one breathing gas from EAN-22 through EAN-40 for no-decompression diving within their existing certification and conditions similar to training. No confined-water or open-water dives are required; two nitrox dives are recommended but optional. Suggested classroom time is three hours. Minimum prerequisites are age 18, or 15 with parental consent, and Open Water Diver certification or current enrolment in an Open Water Diver course. Certification requires satisfactory completion of the course and written examination, understanding of equivalent air depth calculations, and correct oxygen analysis of nitrox mixtures.

Quick Course Overview

• Learning materials

TDI Understanding Nitrox Diver Manual or TDI Nitrox eLearning, completed before or alongside instructor-led training.

• Knowledge development

Benefits and limitations of nitrox; oxygen and nitrogen physiology; Dalton’s law and partial pressure; oxygen exposure; equivalent air depth; maximum operating depth; no-decompression planning; equipment, cylinder, and blending considerations; and safe operating procedures.

• Practical analysis

Use an oxygen analyser correctly, verify the oxygen percentage, determine or confirm MOD, label the cylinder, and complete the required analysis or fill-log information.

• Dive planning

Select an appropriate EAN mixture for the planned depth, confirm oxygen limits, compare no-decompression information, and correctly set and verify a nitrox-capable dive computer where used.

• Assessment

Satisfactory completion of the TDI Nitrox course and written examination, including demonstration of equivalent air depth understanding and correct oxygen-analysis procedures.

• Optional dives

Two nitrox dives are recommended but not required. Any optional dives remain within the diver’s existing certification, depth, skill, environmental, and no-decompression limits.

Training Options

Flexible academic delivery

The academic and gas-analysis session can be delivered to an individual or group where adequate facilities, equipment, supplies, and instructor time are available. Optional nitrox dives Two guided nitrox dives may be arranged separately to apply planning, analysis, MOD verification, computer setup, and post-dive review in practice. They are not required for certification and are priced as guided dives.

Standard Cost

$350 AUD

TDI Nitrox Diver

What You Will Learn

Explain when nitrox may increase available no-decompression time and why it does not remove depth, gas, ascent, or decompression risk.

Calculate or verify oxygen partial pressure, maximum operating depth, equivalent air depth, and exposure limits for EAN-22 through EAN-40.

Analyse a nitrox cylinder personally, confirm the result, label it correctly, and record the analysis before use.

Recognise oxygen-toxicity risk, equipment and cylinder requirements, contamination concerns, and common planning errors.

Plan a conservative no-decompression dive using nitrox tables, planning tools, or a nitrox-capable dive computer as applicable.

What's Included

  • Required learning materials | TDI Nitrox eLearning or TDI Understanding Nitrox academic materials, as confirmed at booking.
  • Instructor-led development | Final knowledge review and professional instruction covering oxygen exposure, MOD, EAD, gas selection, no-decompression planning, equipment considerations, and safe nitrox procedures.
  • Hands-on gas analysis | Use of a nitrox cylinder and oxygen analyser for supervised analysis practice, MOD confirmation, cylinder labelling, and required log-entry procedures.
  • Planning support | Guidance using nitrox planning methods and correctly setting and verifying a nitrox-capable dive computer where applicable.
  • Assessment | Course review, written examination, practical-analysis evaluation, and remediation where required.
  • Certification | TDI Nitrox Diver certification processing after successful completion.

What's Not Included

  • Pool, confined-water, or open-water training; none is required for this certification.
  • Optional nitrox dives, guide fees, site fees, boat fees, equipment hire, and associated logistics unless separately booked. Optional dives are treated as guided dives for pricing.
  • Nitrox fills, cylinder hire, oxygen-analysis charges outside the included training exercise, or additional gases unless specifically confirmed.
  • Personal scuba equipment, exposure protection, or a personal nitrox-capable dive computer. Hire equipment and specialist sales support may be available.
  • Travel, accommodation, and meals.
  • Hard-copy student manual where digital materials are supplied, and anything not listed in the final booking confirmation.

Why Train With Us

Nitrox training connected to real gas practice and technical-diving experience—not just an online certificate. • Practical gas-analysis experience | Complete hands-on analysis, labelling, MOD confirmation, and log procedures using actual nitrox equipment at our training centre. • Thousands of technical dives behind our teaching | Our team brings extensive real-world experience using nitrox in recreational and technical dive planning, adding practical context to oxygen limits, gas selection, and decision-making. • Gas and equipment support under one roof | Access nitrox filling, analysis equipment, computer guidance, compatible equipment advice, and future technical-training support through our centre. • Planning beyond the minimum | Learn to understand why a mixture is appropriate, verify it yourself, and plan conservatively rather than relying only on a label or computer setting. • Clear progression | Build a sound foundation for Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, semi-closed rebreather, and other technical pathways.
