Build technical-diving foundations before depth, decompression, or complexity are added.
The TDI Intro to Tech course introduces certified divers to technical equipment configurations, specifically doubles tank diving (backmounted), precise buoyancy and horizontal trim, efficient propulsion, situational awareness, team communication, disciplined gas planning, and repeatable dive procedures. It is a strictly no-decompression course conducted within the diver’s existing certification limits. The purpose is not to extend depth, but to build the control, awareness, equipment familiarity, and planning discipline needed for safer progression into TDI Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, or other technical pathways.

Standards verification note: Standards verification note: This section has been checked against the current TDI Standards and Procedures, Part 2, Section 3 — Intro to Tech. The standard requires at least three open-water dives, a minimum of six classroom and briefing hours, and no dive deeper than 23 metres / 75 feet or beyond the diver’s current certification. The maximum open-water ratio is 6 students per instructor, with further reduction at the instructor’s discretion. Minimum prerequisites are age 18, or 15 with parental consent, SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent, and proof of 25 logged open-water dives. The course is strictly no-decompression; enriched air nitrox may be used only within the diver’s existing certification. When combined with TDI Advanced Nitrox, a total of four dives is required, subject to all applicable requirements and instructor discretion.

Prerequisites
• Minimum age 18, or 15 with parental consent.
• SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent.
• Proof of at least 25 logged open-water dives.
• Suitable equipment, fitness, recent diving competence, and readiness to complete the required knowledge and in-water performance standards.
Course Format
Learning materials
TDI Intro to Tech eLearning or current required student materials, completed before or alongside instructor-led training.
Knowledge development
At least six classroom and briefing hours covering technical equipment options, configuration, team procedures, situational awareness, gas planning, reserves, no-decompression limits, problem prevention, and technical-diving progression.
Equipment preparation
Configuration assessment, weighting, hose and accessory routing, equipment checks, team roles, gas analysis where applicable, and repeatable pre-dive procedures.
Open-water training
At least three dives developing buoyancy, horizontal trim, propulsion, team positioning, communication, gas sharing, valve or regulator procedures appropriate to the configuration, DSMB deployment, ascent control, and situational awareness.
Course limits
No decompression obligation, no dive deeper than 23 metres / 75 feet, and no dive beyond the student’s current certification.
Combined option
When taught with TDI Advanced Nitrox, only four total dives are required, provided every applicable requirement of both courses is completed.

Apply advanced gas-planning concepts and reserves within a no-decompression dive plan.
Use disciplined team positioning, awareness, communication, START-style checks, ascent procedures, and DSMB deployment.
Recognise personal and equipment limitations and make conservative decisions before progressing to decompression training.
What's Included

What's Not Included
- Personal equipment such as fins, mask, boots, exposure protection, dive computer, cutting devices, DSMB, reel or spool, wet notes, and preferred accessories unless confirmed at booking.
- Personal technical configuration, regulators, harness, wing, or sidemount system unless specifically included. Hire and specialist equipment support may be available.
- Air, nitrox, oxygen, or other gas fills unless specifically included in the booking confirmation.
- Travel, accommodation, boat fees, site fees, and meals unless specifically included.
- Hard-copy student manual and anything not specifically listed in the final booking confirmation.
